How to Upload Files
With Greenest Host, there are three different ways to upload files into your account:
Use the Web-based uploading tool
Use an FTP Program
Use an HTML Editor with built in file transfer (like Dreamweaver or Front Page)
The Web-Based File Uploading Tool
Every Greenest Host account comes with a file uploader that makes it easy to get individual files or small batches of files into your account.
To access the file uploader tool:
Login to your account
On the main screen of your account, click on the "FTP Manager"

After you click, File Manager, your file manager interface will pop up. This is where you can manage all of the files in your account including: uploading, downloading, deleting, renaming, copying, moving, and changing the permissions for files and folders.

Once you are in your File Manager, simply select the "Upload" button from the top menu bar and it will bring you to a screen where you can select individual files from your PC to upload to your web hosting account. "Note: If you want to view or access your files online using a web browser, it is VERY important that you choose the correct destination folder to upload your files to. In most cases, the default place to upload your files to will be the root folder of your account (denoted as "/"), however, if you want to be able to see your files online by typing in http://www.yourdomain.com/filename, then you must select the corresponding web address folder in the "Upload files to" area (see below.)

Select "Browse" from the right hand side of the file manager window to find local files on your computer.
Navigate to the location of the files you want to upload using the pop up box and select individual files to upload then hit the "Upload" button near the bottom of the screen.
If you want to upload many files or full folders all at once, please refer to the other two methods of uploading: FTP Programs and HTML editors.
By default, your domain's index folder contains a file called index.html. You may overwrite this file if you have your own index file, but if your index file is named index.htm, index.shtml, index.php, etc., you may have to delete or rename the default index.html file in order for web browsers to default to your custom index file.
Using and FTP Program to Upload Files
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It's a method for transfering files online that makes it easy to move lots of file from one place to another. There are many good and easy to use FTP programs, many of which are free and/or have free trial periods. Some of our favorites include:
Smart FTP
Cute FTP
You can download and install the FTP program, also called an "FTP Client" on your computer. Once you have the FTP program installed, you just need to configure a couple settings and you will be on your way to drag-and-drop file management. Here's what you will need to configure (example screenshots are using Smart FTP):
Set your "Host" (sometimes also called "Address") to web.greenesthost.com
If your program asks for a "Port", just make sure it stays the default port 21
If you would like, you can specify a "Path" to a specific folder. Our recommendation would be to either leave the path field blank, thus defaulting to your "root" folder where you can see all of the folders in your account or set it to /yourdomain.com if you want to always upload and manage files in your website's public web folder.
Fill in your "Username" and "Password" and hit "Done." Your username and password are the same ones you use for your account's web login.

Once you're logged in, you can just drag and drop files to move them between your local computer and your web hosting account. The interface and features of your FTP experience will depend on the software you use, but FTP will allow you a much easier way to move large files and large quantities of files to and from your account.
Using an HTML Editor to Upload Files
HTML editors, like Dreamweaver and Front Page, can make the web design process a whole lot easier and they can also make it easy to transfer files (or your whole website) to your web hosting account.
